Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla / City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra

The British Project (CD)

Conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra
present The British Project on Deutsche Grammophon.

The album captures the extraordinary artistry of the Lithuanian conductor and her Birmingham band. It was recorded at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, in the context of the “Britain Calling” series, and at the orchestra’s home in Birmingham.

“Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla revels in every nuance of these four works, all of which are landmarks of British music though not necessarily widely known,” comments Dr Clemens Trautmann, President Deutsche Grammophon. “Elgar, who conducted the then City of Birmingham Orchestra’s first symphony concert in November 1920, Britten, Walton and Vaughan Williams are all deeply rooted in the collective soul of this wonderful ensemble and their music has made a significant and lasting impact in the one hundred years of the CBSO’s existence. I can’t imagine any better way to encapsulate that rich legacy than with this fresh and hugely inspiring album.”
