Solti in Europe (45CD+2 DVD Box Set)

$269.95

Decca proudly presents the third and final instalment in a recent series of reissues (following Solti - Chicago and Solti - London). Together, these three boxes cover Solti’s entire orchestral discography for Decca. This new limited edition, Solti in Europe, stands as a vital testimony to what Sir Georg fought for – music as a mission for world understanding and a symbol for international unification – and includes recordings from his very first on Decca as a pianist in 1947 to his last studio album made within three months of his death. Of the latter, Gramophone noted the irony that “these were his very first recordings made in his native Hungary with Hungarian musicians” … “In his final reconciliation with his native land…[he] found extra warmth in music he loved, while keeping the biting intensity which was always a hallmark of his conducting” wrote Edward Greenfield in his review.
