Isata Kanneh-Mason

Childhood Tales (CD)

Isata Kanneh-Mason evokes the magic of childhood in this charming collection – nostalgic music written for grown-ups, about children. Centred around Dohnanyi’s Variations on a Nursery Song, which builds from "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" into a truly virtuosic work. Accompanied by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Isata recalls hearing the piece as a child. She also remembers learning Mozart’s variations on the same melody, the perfect showpiece to twin with the Dohnanyi. Debussy’s Children’s Corner, written for his six-year-old daughter and Schumann’s simple and unpretentious reflections of childhood, "Kinderszenen," complete this evocative souvenir of childhood.
