Universally popular as the composer of the opera Hänsel und Gretel, 2021 marks the centenary of the passing of Engelbert Humperdinck. As a tribute Deutsche Grammophon bring together a selection of Humperdinck’s best-known works in beloved recordings from the catalogue alongside new recordings of lesser-known gems, including a world premiere recording of Erinnerung – a delightful piano piece only recently discovered. This collection includes not only his ‘greatest hits’ with artists such as Brigitte Fassbaender and Jonas Kaufmann, but also new recordings with a view into his neglected chamber music.
