Arthur Grumiaux - The Complete Philips Recordings (74CD)

Arthur Grumiaux’s complete recordings made for the Philips label, presented together in one deluxe edition for the first time.
74-CD centenary boxed set presented in a lift-off lid box, anti-scratch matt lamination + silver hotfoil design, 100pp booklet with new retrospective liner notes by music historian Tully Potter (in English, French, German, Japanese), rare archival photographs, facsimiles of original sleeve artwork, and alphabetical and chronological indexes of recorded works.

The set also includes the first-ever release of previously unpublished recordings of Mozart’s concertante Adagio (K261) and Rondo (K373) with LSO/Davis (London, 1964).

“An extremely down-to-earth, instinctive and emotional being, he found many solutions in his life and his music through his sensitivity and his sound instinct. All his knowledge in life passed through his aestheticism for music, the piano and the violin.” -- Augustin Dumay

“His accounts of the Beethoven Concerto are ethereal, and grounded in a sure feeling for musical architecture. His solo Bach has long been considered a benchmark, while his Beethoven sonatas with Clara Haskil are both artfully crafted and intelligently phrased.” -- Rob Cowan, Gramophone Magazine

“A great artist whose luminous tone, elegant style, and musical integrity made him revered among lovers of his instrument.”
-- ClassicsToday.com

“Was there anything musical that this man couldn’t do with fiddle and bow?” -- Gramophone
