Matthias Goerne and Seong-Jin Cho present songs by Wagner, Pfitzner and Richard Strauss in a new Lieder album entitled Im Abendrot (At Sunset). It follows Goerne’s multiple award-winning album of Beethoven songs with Jan Lisiecki for the Yellow Label. It underlines his commitment to exploring landmarks of the Lied repertoire in recital and in the recording studio with outstanding Deutsche Grammophon artists and captures the twilit years of German Romanticism. Dramatic or elegiac, these works give off a constant, Apollonian light, draped in Klimtian threads and flowers of gold.
