Rudolf Serkin
Rudolf Serkin Edition (9CD)
In 1981 Serkin entered into a relationship with Deutsche Grammophon that would persist until his death ten years later. The Serkin/DG partnership yielded three major projects.
In July 1982, Serkin collaborated for the first and only time on disc with the cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. Rostropovich told Serkin’s biographers in 1995. “He had such a purity, such a musical conscience … This record has stayed in my memory as one of the happiest experiences of our work together.”
"In a world marked by uncertainty and instability, Serkin’s uncompromising moral core, his utter lack of artifice and his devotion to artistic truth are more relevant and meaningful than ever." Jed Distler
