Zubin Mehta – The Philharmonic Edition (57CD box set)
$339.99
Maestro Zubin Mehta celebrates his 90th birthday on 29 April 2026. As a long-standing exclusive artist with Decca, he created an extraordinary musical legacy in the 1960s and 1970s that combines European tradition with American dynamism. His interpretations blend depth with electrifying energy and continue to captivate listeners today with their sonic brilliance.
This comprehensive box set brings together recordings for Decca and Deutsche Grammophon spanning almost five decades (1965–2013), from Mozart to Mahler. Arranged alphabetically and accompanied by thematic programmes, it reflects Mehta’s main centres of activity in Israel and Vienna, as well as significant collaborations in Berlin, London, Florence and New York. It opens with Bruckner’s Ninth in Vienna in 1965 – a milestone to this day.
Included are, among other things, symphony cycles by Schubert and Schumann, as well as Beethoven’s piano concertos with Ashkenazy and Lupu. Featuring Pavarotti, Perlman and Lang Lang, live recordings and opera recordings, the edition brings together key stages of his career.
With original covers, rare photos and texts by David Patmore, James Jolly and Cyrus Meher-Homji, it is a fitting tribute.
